  1. AI can be fairly expensive - semen costs $45-85 per straw - one straw per ewe. Then it cost me about $60 per ewe to have the procedure done. But when you consider the cost of a top of the line ram, and the possibility of bringing in a contagious disease when buying in new stock, its definitely worth it. And with this rare breed, we need new bloodlines, and the only way to get it is through importing semen from the UK. We (BFL breeders) spend a lot of time searching out some of the top rams. X! is just magnificent, and to top it off, until his son, B2 knocked him out of 1st place, he was the top ranked sire in the BFL sire reference scheme.
